ZEPHYR XSTREAM

Digital Network Transceiver

Zephyr Xstream and Xstream MXP

Presenting Zephyr Xstream, the newest member of the famous Zephyr family of ISDN transceivers. Since its groundbreaking marriage of MPEG Layer-3 and ISDN technology  in 1993, Telos Zephyr has become perhaps the most successful digital broadcast product ever. Today Zephyr is the standard for high-quality audio transmission at broadcast facilities worldwide... from California to Canberra, from Munich to Madrid, and everywhere between.

Zephyr Xstream introduces MPEG4 AAC-LD  coding, the newest compression algorithm from MP3 inventor Fraunhofer Labs, for Layer-3 audio quality with transmission times reduced up to 80 percent. True two-way high-fidelity remotes over ISDN are finally a reality! And of course Zephyr Xstream is fully backward-compatible with our original Zephyr.

What are people saying about Zephyr Xstream?

More Zephyrs than Corn Dogs* at a County Fair Telos Zephyrs were backstage stars at the 2006 Country Music Awards in Nashville. 48 radio stations originated live from the event, all with Zephyr. Pro audio rental house Silver Lake Audio provided the Zephyrs. "Occasions like these are our bread and butter," says Steve Kirsch, owner of Silver Lake, "and we use Zephyr exclusively for these major events."

The photo to the right shows Steve Kirsch and the crew of Silver Lake Audio proudly peering over their mountain of Zephyrs just before show time.

The crew at Silver Lake are no strangers to major events. "The biggest that we ever did was the 2000 Radio Music Awards in Las Vegas, where we had 120 stations originating simultaneously," recalls Kirsch, "every single station used Zephyr. When ISDN equipment rentals began in the early 1990s, we started with an equal number of different companies' codecs. Today, Silver Lake has over 100 Zephyrs in stock, ten times more thany any other brand."

Rick Dees and Jerry Burnham show their Zephyr Xstream Here's a comment from Jerry Burnham, studio engineer for internationally-known morning personality Rick Dees:
We just got back from the island of Maui where we spent the week doing remote broadcasts of The Rick Dees Morning Show and Weekly Top-40.

"As there is no ISDN on that part of the island, we needed to use Switched-56 for the program link. The Portable Zephyr Xstream in the V.35 configuration was connected to our Adtran DSU-III-AR Data Service Unit with the cable you supplied. The protocol we chose was "AAC-LD MONO 64." There was virtually no delay and audio quality was incredible. The whole system worked perfectly!
"It all goes to show that old and new technology can blend well when the best equipment is used."
